Peppermint Crisp Tart anyone!! Tell me who is not crazy about this dessert. Apart from the Milk Tart and Malva pudding; I personally think that the Peppermint Crisp Tart is one of the best and most loved South African desserts. An absolute favourite whenever I make it for my family. It is one of the must-have desserts for Christmas lunch and compared to my mom’s famous trifle; the peppermint crisp tart dish is empty before we know it. That is how popular it is. But why wait until Christmas when you can have it anytime, all year round.
Other than jelly and custard; it is by far the easiest dessert to make. The flavour amalgamation of every spoonful you taste definitely lies in the layering of biscuits, chocolate and the caramel cream mixture. Traditionally I make the peppermint crisp tart using only four (4) ingredients. However, I experimented a bit and added an extra ingredient to the recipe. For this recipe I added chocolate mousse and made it in individual cups. I call it Chocolate Caramel Peppermint Crisp Cups. My family loves it as the chocolate mousse alleviates the sweetness and makes it creamier. This recipe makes 4 – 6 tumbler glass cups but you can also make it in a glass dish. Should you make it in a glass dish then I recommend not to crush the biscuits.
