You always run out of ideas to keep the kids busy during the school holidays. After receiving complimentary vouchers, Lea and Mika were lucky to visit The Kids Gym at Sable Square, Cape Town. And oh my word, what a great fun-filled experience it was.
Before heading there, we anticipated it to be just another kids play area. Let’s just say, we were pleasantly surprised to see what it was all about when we arrived. The Gym and Play Combo voucher to the value of R140 affords a child two hours at The Kids Gym. This includes an hour training session using all the gym equipment and a personal trainer. And an hour free play in the separate play area.
After signing the girls in, they were off to the gym area with Robyn, the personal trainer. So focused and enthusiastic when on the treadmill, that they didn’t notice us watching them from a distance. As parents don’t have access to the gym area, Brent and I had time to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee at the in-house Ninja Bean coffee shop. We had peace of mind that our girls were safe and well taken care of. Also there are big screens where parents can monitor their kids’ progress.
During this time, we met one of the owners, Glenn Joselowitz, a former Protea gymnastics coach with over 15 years experience. Inspired by his own daughter, Glenn came up this wonderful concept. He wanted the benefit of exercise and skill development to be available to all kids of all levels in a facility built for their needs. This gym gives kids the opportunity to exercise as and when it suits them in a sophisticated and technologically advanced venue.
The Kids Gym offers a non-judgmental, non-competitive environment for kids to exercise and develop new skills. Catering for kids between 18 months and 15 years old, all sessions are under the supervision/instruction of qualified trainers. In order to develop important stepping stones; offering age appropriate programmes are vital. The aim is also not only to nurture physical literacy but emotional development too.
The Kids Gym will provide turn-key holistic services in support of the overall wellness and development of every child; whether they have special needs or special talents.
Whilst at the gym, I noticed that the staff are very enthusiastic, energetic and patient. It is clear that they have a passion for kids and love what they do. Motivating the kids at all times and ensuring that they are safe.
Once the girls were done with their training session, they were exhausted. And by exhausted I mean, they built up a real sweat and were physically tired. They had something to drink and eat to rebuild their energy levels and went to the play area for an hour’s free play. Knackered when we got home, they bathed and within minutes they were in dreamland. Now that is what I call your money’s worth.
The Kids Gym has various packages on offer from Pay As You Go, Individual and Family packages. Visit their website for more details on this.
They also host the following:
- 2-hour fun-filled kids parties
- Parents night off. This allows parents to enjoy a night out and to drop their kids off at The Kids Gym where they will be entertained. Bookings are essential, visit their website for specified dates.
On 1 August 2018, The Kids Gym will celebrate its 1 year anniversary. To celebrate this milestone, they will be hosting an Open Day at the gym on this day. Inviting members and non-members to visit the gym at no charge.
I am very impressed with The Kids Gym as it teaches children about exercise in a way that makes them feel great about themselves and their bodies. It boosts their confidence, teaches them fundamental skills and makes them aware of their personal wellbeing. This is definitely a place that I would highly recommend and will definitely be going back soon. I’m hoping that they will open up another gym closer to my suburb.

This looks like an amazing place, we have soft play locally, but something like this would be fantastic and helpful in preventing child obesity #dreamteam@_karendenbid199@gmail. Is

It is an amazing place and so different from the usual play areas. It gives kids an opportunity to embrace exercise in a fun way.
Awesome post, Noleen! We LOVE The Kids Gym. My son has been enjoying Li’l Ninjas (Ninja Zone classes) for the last 6 months and we’re definitely renewing our membership for another 6 months. So happy to hear you had such a great experience there too. Hope to see you again soon.

That’s great Lauren. I live out in the Southern Suburbs so it’s a bit difficult to sign up for membership. But we will definitely come on a pay and you go basis. Hoping that in the near future a branch will open up our way.
Yes, there’s definitely a demand for The Kids Gym in the Southern Suburbs (and Northern Suburbs). They can’t open up fast enough. :)Glenn and Janet are currently working on opening up a branch in Joburg. Exciting times for The Kids Gym.

When having a conversation with Glenn, he did indicate that they are looking into it and that they will be opening up a branch in Joburg. It’s such a great concept and something that is definitely needed for kids.
Wow that looks fantastic. Wish we had something that that locally. Thanks for sharing with the #DreamTeam
I’ve never heard of a gym dedicated to kids only soft play. #DreamTeam
