• Mika’s Ooh La Llama Party

Allow me to share some of the pictures of Mika’s Ooh La Llama Party. I know that I am a month late in posting about her party. But please forgive me as my entire December was a bit crazy. Mika turned 10 in December and we hosted her party at World of Adventure which is situated at Root 44, Stellenbosch.

    Venue

A while ago I entered a competition and won a party at World of Adventure. Included in the prize was a party for 10 kids and 10 adults, a birthday cake and the service of a professional photographer. Having someone else take the photos at a party that you are hosting is such a benefit as it allows you to socialise with your guests.

World of Adventure was the perfect venue for Mika’s 10th party. This family-friendly indoor-outdoor play park has such a lot of fun activities for the kids. Apart from putt-putt, the peddle cart track, ziplining, junglegyms, climbing wall there is also water activities like the spray park and the double slip ‘n slide. As it was a hot summer’s day; the kids absolutely loved the water activities. It should be noted that there are one limitation when using this venue. The venue does not permit you to bring your own food and drinks. Instead, drinks and table snacks has to be ordered from their in-house Shake Shack and all other catering from the food vendors at the market.  However; allowed into the venue is your own birthday cake and party favour bags. Which is a bonus. Personally, not doing our own catering saved us so much time and energy.

    Theme and Party Prints

Deciding on a theme was really easy as Mika absolutely loves animals having a Llama themed party was a no brainer.  Because Llamas are from South America; we added a touch of Mexican fiesta to the theme. Mika’s Ooh La Llama Party invitation and thank you gift tags were customized using a template that I sourced from Greetings Island.

    Cake

Just how gorgeous is this Llama cake! This masterpiece was created by Michelle Groenewald from The Cupcake Tarts. Mika decided on a pink airbrushed cake decorated with a llama figurine, various cacti and desert rose succulents. I emailed Michelle a few weeks before the party and briefed her on the detail and colour palette. And I must compliment her on creating it exactly to what Mika had in mind.

    Decor

So obviously when you think Fiesta first thing that comes to mind is colourful decorations. Decor ideas for this Llama Party was super easy to come up with.  I made a few cactus paper plants, stuck a stick on it and placed it in jars with straw fillers.  The decorations for the snack table were tissue ribbon tassels and small lanterns. I bought a Llama Plus Toy at The Crazy Store and decorated it with tassels and a handmade blanket.

    Party Food

As mentioned in previous blog posts; food is an important element of any party that we host. I do however want to stress that sometimes we over cater and the guests always leave with takeaway boxes.  Which was exactly the case at Mika’s party.  To tie in with the theme; we had Mexican food which consisted of mouth-watering mini burritos, quesadillas and chimichangas.  Now we all know that there will always be those picky eaters. So apart from the Mexican food, there were also mini hot dogs. And if that wasn’t enough we also had mini donuts, coconut marshmallows which served as Llama bales, popcorn and sweets. Because why not!!

    Take Home Gifts

Colourful organza bags were filled with lip gloss, stationery, hair accessories, sweet and homemade slime. A handmade plush felt Llama was also placed in each bag.  I will share the craft tutorial on how I made this soon.

Thank you World of Adventure for hosting Mika’s party and we all had a fabulous time.
