Understanding the effects of broken promises can hopefully make you mindful of making and breaking promises.
“You are just like ma, you make promises you can’t keep!”
An emotional outburst by my daughters directed at their dad. Their disappointment was apparent.
It all happened when their grandmother promised to buy them an ice cream after school. Something came up and they had to take a detour from the ice cream shop. Postponed to the next day and still no ice cream. Her excuse was that she either forgot or didn’t have enough money to buy the ice cream. Of course they saw this as just another empty promise.
Oh my goodness, this Oreo Chocolate Dessert is the bomb. A perfect dessert to end off the last of those summer days. It is super easy to make and only requires a few ingredients.
I wanted to create something different from the usual summer desserts I always make. I then just slapped a few ingredients together and created this masterpiece. A delicious dessert that was indeed a crowd-pleaser. Not too rich and made every one come back for more.
Oreo Chocolate Dessert
Delicious and easy to make, perfect for those hot summer days.

Layer a large glass trifle bowl with crushed Oreos. Followed by the instant chocolate pudding mix then the custard.
Repeat these layers right to the top of the bowl.
Place in the refrigerator.

Now there are many stories about the origin of how Valentine’s Day came about. Whether these stories are true, I would not know as it was not verified. The most popular of it all, describes Valentine as a Roman priest during the Third Century. Emperor Claudius III prohibited all single young men from marriage as they would make better soldiers. Valentine went against Claudius’ orders and continued to perform marriage ceremonies for young lovers in secret. On discovery, Claudius sentenced Valentine to death on 14 February.
Without verification it is believed that St Valentine was the patron saint of love.
A few days ago three work colleagues (one male and two females) from another department questioned my age. Their age category is under 30. Never before did we converse about our personal lives. We spoke about kids and somehow I revealed the age of my girls. They assumed that I had my daughters at a young age and judging my current age to be in the range of 29 – 31.
Now you know what happens when people assume. They make an ass out of u and me.
Of course I burst out laughing and thanked them for guesstimating my age to be about 10 years younger than what I actually am.
Revealing that I was in fact a 40 something year old woman came as a shock to them.
Now if you think of a squirrel, what comes to mind is a small cute rodent with a furry tail. Leaping from one tree to another and nibbling on acorns. Besides being those cute little creatures, squirrels are savers, hoarders and stashes. They stock up for the future and they have back up plans.
Well it seems as if my family has been transformed into squirrels.
Recently we’ve been busy with renovations and also extended our garage. So last week we decided to organise our garage.
A sight for sore eyes to put it bluntly. Seeing all the stuff was overwhelming. Have we gone completely nuts? How can four people accumulate so much stuff?
It’s mid-January and you are yet to recover financially from the festive season. Plus with children returning to school last week, the costs of stationery, school uniform and school fees are adding up. If your child has just started Grade R or Grade 1; you probably did not expect the escalating cost of sending your child to school.
Apart from the school fees, the most expensive item is probably the school uniform. The annual rising costs of school uniforms in South Africa are putting additional financial pressure on parents to fork out more money to fit out their children.
It will probably set you back over R3500 if not more to fit your child out in the full school uniform, including school shoes and sportswear.
This week my Sunday Photo features the beautiful Kraalbaai. A hidden gem situated in the West Coast National Park. In order to access this beach you need to drive through the nature reserve. You sure to catch a glimpse of ostriches, tortoises, gemsbok and eland. However there are many more other wildlife in the park – so be on the lookout.
As the new school year dawns upon us, these are my back to school wishes for my kids
With my daughters being on vacation for over 6 weeks as their school closed the end of November; I must say it is high time that the 2018 academic year commences. Yip I am one of those moms who are super happy that school is starting.
My kids are older so it is not as if they are starting school for the first time. Gone are the days of having mixed emotions and teary eyes.
I literally have been counting the days from New Year ’s Day. So roll on Wednesday.
My Sunday Photo was taken two weeks ago, capturing the sunset over the ocean. We stopped at Llandudno whilst driving from Hout Bay to Camps Bay. Although the sun sets every day, we don’t really notice it. Unless you on top of a hill or mountain. It also instantly captivates you as you witness the sunset over the ocean. The view makes you want to reach for your camera to capture the moment. As the bright orange colour slowly fades; nature’s beauty mesmerises you. It brings a feeling of calmness over you. This display is over within minutes and then dusk begins to fall.
Have a blessed Sunday all!
